Igbo youths have accused a former Aviation Minister, Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode, of inciting the Yoruba against the Igbo.
The former minister’s recent article entitled, ‘The bitter truth about the Igbo’, the youth said, was “satanic and selfish.”
The youth, who spoke under the auspices of the Igbo Youth Movement, noted that Fani-Kayode via the article was only seeking political relevance in Yoruba land.
They spoke through the IYM President, Rev. Elliot Ukoh, in Enugu on Thursday.
Ukoh said, “The author of that article has a life-long burden. He has issues with the Yoruba people. His father, who was deputy to the late Samuel Ladoke Akintola, belonged to the tiny Yoruba click, which the late Ahmadu Bello’s Northern Peoples Congress used to destabilise Yoruba land and destroy Yoruba unity in the First Republic.
“The damage this group did to Yoruba psyche – imprisonment of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo – is still reverberating till date and many have yet to forgive Chief Remi Fani-Kayode, father to Femi Fani-Kayode.”
Ukoh also said there was no quarrel between the Igbo and the Yoruba, noting, “the two tribes have been getting along for more than 100 years.”
Also, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Wing said if Fani-Kayode failed to apologise for his utterances in the article within 10 days, its members would come against his wife and daughters.
