No fewer than four persons were on Monday allegedly shot dead in a
clash between members of the Movement for the Actualisation of the
Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) and a joint security team in
Onitsha, Anambra State.
The leader of MASSOB, Ralph Uwazuruike, who spoke to reporters through
the Director for Information, Uchenna Madu, alleged that the recent
killing of their members by a joint patrol team was because of their
earlier stand that the movement will not support the All Progressives
Grand Alliance (APGA) in the Saturday's governorship election in the
state.
According to Madu, the incident happened in the early hours of Monday
when a joint team of army, police and officials of the Department of
State Security Services stormed MASSOB headquarters along
Onitsha-Owerri Road and allegedly opened fire on their members, which
resulted to the death of four persons while scores sustained various
degrees of gunshot wounds.
He also disclosed that during the clash, over 87 persons were
critically injured and were denied medical attention because of lack
of police medical permit.
