JTF kills two insurgents in Kano State

The Joint Military Task Force (JTF) in Kano State, on Tuesday, carried

out a raid on a Boko Haram hideout in Gayawa village, Ungogo Local

Government Area of the state.

Reports say the raid, which was organised as a result of an

intelligence gathering by the JTF following the arrest of some

suspects in Maiduguri and Katsina, lasted close to two hours and

resulted in the death of two suspected Boko Haram gunmen.

The JTF recovered a Nissan Sunny vehicle, two AK 47 rifles and

ammunition from the alleged insurgents who fled. The JTF also said

that following the raid, it came under attack in Gayawa village as

explosives were set off by the suspected terrorists in the vicinity.

According to a statement by the JTF through its spokesperson, Ikediche

Iweha, "19 November 2013, at about 0630 hours (6:30 am) at Gayawa

general area of Ungogo Local Government Area. Two terrorists lost

their lives in the resulting shoot-out with troops. Items recovered

from them include two AK 47 rifles, five magazines, 91 rounds of 7.62

special ammunition, among other items.

"Yesterday, 18 November 2013, at about 1930 hours (7:30 pm), following

intelligence build up, the JTF and personnel of the Department of

State Service, Kano Command mounted a snap check point along Kankara –

Sheme road in Katsina State to intercept fleeing terrorists from

operations in the northeastern axis of the country.

"Two terrorists were intercepted and apprehended on their way to

Zamfara State. Two AK 47 rifles, 4 magazines, and 68 rounds of 7.62mm

special ammunition were recovered from them in a Nissan Sunny car.

"The proactive reactions of the JTF in Kano continue to deny

terrorists freedom of action and from using the State as a launching

pad to launch attacks on other parts of the country; this is as a

result of the support the JTF is receiving from members of the general

public."

Iweha went on to encourage residents to report suspicious persons,

regardless of their gender and carry out thorough checks on people

seeking accommodation from them to prevent harbouring insurgents.
