The 2015 MTV Movie Awards are this weekend, and if you’re super stoked to see Amy Schumer, Shailene Woodley, and Chris Hemsworth (like us), Sunday night probably feels so, so far away. To hold you over until then, we’re looking back at what some of our faves wore on the Movie Awards red carpet in years past because, well, we’re cool like that. Today, we’re taking it back to 2000 where halters, shiny leather and embellished jeans were ~sooo on trend~. Peep some of our favorite ensembles below!

Aaliyah

Our girl went for a no-nonsense, one shoulder Gucci LBD with a gold arm cuff and strappy sandals. She also sported the OG ombre look with a soft cat eye and high-shine lips. This is perfection, people.
NSYNC
Getty Images
Between Lance’s blue tips, Justin’s cornrows and Chris’s bucket hat, there’s a lot of accessorizing going on here, and we’re totally not mad about it because, hi, they performed “It’s Gonna Be Me” later in the evening. (Also, is that a leather shirt with ruffles? *mind blown*)
Freddie Prinze, Jr. and Sarah Michelle Gellar
Getty Images
Everyone’s favorite late ’90s/early 2000s couple is still going strong today, but back then, Sarah Michelle Gellar won Best Female Performance and Best Kiss for famously Frenching Selma Blair in Cruel Intentions.
Beyonce
Getty Images
Beyonce opted for a psychedelic yellow and red frock covered in sparkles paired with crimped waves while she co-hosted the MTV Movie Awards pre-show. (Yeah, that seriously happened.)
Cameron Diaz
Getty Images
We’ve only got four words for this Cameron Diaz outfit: BEDAZZLED PALM TREE PANTS.
Tara Reid and Carson Daly
Getty Images
Never before has a single clasp caused us so much anxiety, amirite? Thanks to American Pie and TRL, these two dominated the big and small screen in 2000.
D’Angelo
Getty Images
D’Angelo performed “Devil’s Pie” at the 2000 MTV Movie Awards but gave us a little ab preview on the red carpet before he hit the stage. How thoughtful of him.
Katie Holmes and Chris Klein
Getty Images
This once-engaged couple just started dating when they made their Movie Awards appearance together, and TBH, we are totally feeling Katie’s shimmery halter dress complete with a matching choker.
Sisqo
Getty Images
“Thong Song” was released in 1999, so Sisqo was (very appropriately) livin’ it up on the red carpet with his signature silver hair, custom chains, and suede pants.
Keanu Reeves and Jimmy Fallon
Getty Images
Despite Keanu’s stoic expression, The Matrix actually won Best Movie, Best Male Performance, and Best Fight. Jimmy Fallon, on the other hand, looked super stoked in his printed shirt and leather jacket.

Halle Berry
Getty Images
Dang, girl, don’t hurt ‘em! Halle arrived in this beaded two piece, which turned heads in the best way possible.
Mark Wahlberg
Getty Images
In case you missed the long-haired Mark era, feel free to stare at this bad boy for as long as you like. (You’re welcome.)
Mena Suvari and Jason Biggs
Getty Images
Between American Pie and American Beauty, Mena Suvari was THE trendy girl-of-the-moment (and so was super-shiny leather, apparently).
Julia Stiles
Getty Images
Julia Stiles won Best Breakthrough for 10 Things I hate About You, but guys, we can’t get over that tiny handbag! Look at it! It’s so small! Bb bag!
Selma Blair and Jason Schwartzman
Getty Images
Did you know these two briefly dated in 2000? No? Neither did we, but thanks to the Movie Awards, it will be remembered FOREVER.
Lucy Liu
Getty Images
Whoa, this Lucy Liu look could easily pass on the red carpet today–her geometric halter dress and beachy waves are totally on trend.
Sarah Jessica Parker
Getty Images
This isn’t technically on the red carpet, but we can’t forget to mention the MTV Movie Awards host Sarah Jessica Parker who changed ensembles more than 20 times throughout the show. We repeat: 20 outfits. One show. *bows down*
Tom Green
Getty Images
And finally, we leave you with this: Tom Green accessorizing with a coffee maker because, well, why not?
