At a campaign rally in Toledo, Ohio, on Thursday night,
President Donald Trump wasted little time before deriding Democrats' nonbinding
War Powers Resolution, which passed earlier in the day, largely along party
lines, in a rebuke to the the president over an airstrike last week that killed
top Iranian general Qassem Soleimani.
The strike triggered a retaliatory missile strike by Iran
against Iraqi bases housing U.S. troops, and has roiled the overall picture in
the Middle East.
According to Fox News, Trump suggested Democrats, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., would have tipped off the media about the operation, which he has maintained headed off aggression against U.S. interests and a plot to blow up America's embassy in Baghdad, Iraq.
Donald Trump on war powers measures |
"They're saying, 'You should get permission from
Congress, you should come in and tell us what you want to do – you should come
in and tell us, so that we can call up the fake news that's back there, and we
can leak it,'" Trump said.
"That's a lot of corruption back there, folks."
